Elevated transit

Painting over a railroad that never stops.

Elevated subway and rail structures are some of the hardest steel in the region to paint. We work alongside track, power and systems contractors, inside the owner's outage windows, and hand the structure back on time.

  • B
Top flanges during track replacementWhen rails and ties come off, the tops of stringers and girders are exposed for the first time in decades. We scrape and coat them before new track goes down.
  • C
Scheduled around outagesCrews plan to the prime contractor's look-ahead schedules and mobilize fast when the owner grants a track outage.
Services

One trade, done completely.

We paint steel structures. Everything else we do, from rigging to containment to paperwork, exists so the coating goes on right and the structure stays in service.

Who we are

Fifteen years on the steel.

The people who run Steelcoat's work have been painting bridges and elevated structures across the Tri-State area for more than 15 years.

That time was spent on the hard end of the trade: blasting and scraping steel that has been rusting for decades, hanging containment over traffic and track, and working inside tight outage windows where the structure goes back into service on schedule no matter what.

We tell owners and general contractors exactly what we can do and when we can do it. Then we show up and do it. That is how a painting contractor earns repeat work in the Tri-State area.

Safety & compliance

Everyone goes home.

Painting steel at height, over traffic and next to energized rail is dangerous work. These rules are how we do it without incident, and they are not negotiable on our jobs.

Full harness, tied off, every time.
At height

100% tie-off

Fall protection is in use whenever a worker is exposed to a fall, on every platform, float and member.

Every shift

Plan before tools

A job hazard analysis is reviewed with the crew at the start of each shift, before anyone climbs.

Rail right-of-way

Track rules first

Our crews work under the owner's track access, flagging and protection procedures and train for the right-of-way before they set foot on it.

Transit programs

Drug & alcohol testing

An FTA drug and alcohol testing program under 49 CFR Part 655 covers our safety-sensitive transit work.

Old coatings

Lead handled by the rules

Existing coatings are tested before they are disturbed. Where lead is present, work follows OSHA's lead in construction standard, 29 CFR 1926.62.

Below the work

Nothing falls

Shields, tarps and containment keep debris, dust and paint off the street, the track and the water.
